Album Review: Jenocide – Knee Deep EP

Haligonian Electronica master Jenocide just recently released the EP Knee Deep and I couldn’t be happier. After following her hilarious tweets for eons, I finally have her music in my possession. Jenocide fuses girl power with electro-pop music that will have you up and dancing the moment you hear it. Holy crow, is it ever good… Imagine Emily Haines’ haunting voice mixed with a style you’ve never heard before. The music is a bit loopy but that’s some of the beauty of it. Knee Deep will leave you dizzy and energized at the same time. The vocals are a bit sloppy sometimes but if you listen carefully you can hear some really interesting styles shine through. You can tell that Jenocide has a deep appreciation of blues and jazz based on her style of singing. The overall sound of the E.P. is unique to the Halifax music scene and there are not that many people who can do it as well as she does. For this EP, Jenocide has collaborated with Willow Bell to lay down five spectacular and danceable tracks. Worth checking out for sure, this album is perfect for blasting at a party or even just in your headphones when you need to get shit done. Not to mention Jenocide has to have the best fashion sense I have ever seen.  You absolutely must check out Knee Deep which spews girl power, love, and dance party.

The release party for Knee Deep will be on November 13th at Gus’s Pub at 10:00 When Jenocide plays with DJ James Reid. Also on playing will be Girls Would Kill, Micro Organs, Laura Peek. All this for $6. Word on the street is that she will be selling some snazzy download codes for the new EP in the form of stickers. The kid in you will love the sticker, the cool kid in you will love the music.
