Shad Wins Juno

Shad picked up the award for Rap Recording of the Year beating out the heavy favourite Drake. Shad’s album TSOL was shortlisted for the Polaris Prize last year (see our Shad Polaris coverage here), so it is nice to see it get even more well deserved attention. Check out the awards tomorrow at 8:00 EST.

Cool Stuff: Shad and Dallas Green

There is a scientifically proven law that states when you take two foods you really like and put them together, it will taste good. Obviously it is not a law, but my friend Birch told me about his theory. After experimenting with things such as salad and marshmallows, I have yet to see his theory proven wrong. Applying this theory to music is a different story however. Collaborations can be really hit and miss. For example a having Jay-Z and U2 sounds interesting, hearing Sunday Bloody Sunday with Jay-Z adding his own rap verses can be bloody scary. Other collaborations are like treats for the ears.

Ontario rapper Shad had quite a year in 2010 with the release of his Polaris shortlisted TSOL that impressed fans and critics alike. Dallas Green of Alexisonfire and City and Colour fame has joined forces with Shad for a 12″ vinyl release called Two Songs. The procedes from this recording will go toSkate4Cancer. One of those two songs is entitled “Live Forever” and can be downloaded over at Consequence of Sound. Dallas Green has experience lending his melodic voice to punk, so it comes as no surprise that he is able to seamlessly add vocals to this collab with Shad and not sound out of place or like either of the artists are stepping on each other’s toes or cramming each other’s talents.
